Bicycle Blessings

What?
Do you have a bicycle that is in need of minor repairs? If so, bring it to the Bicycle Blessings and get ready for spring and summer fun. Bicycle Blessings is a ministry provided to the Mitchell County community by First Presbyterian Church. Repairs are made on bicycles at no charge to the bike owner. To date, Bicycle Blessings have repaired 165 bikes, Most of the repairs are flat tires, yet many bikes need brake adjustment, chains cleaned and oiled, headset adjustment and handlebar adjustment. Our repair team is limited to making minor repairs yet they touch each bike with love in their hearts and child safety in their minds.

After the bikes are repaired, we Ride to Ruddick Park for free fun, food, and fellowship. All children who ride their bike to the park are given a free helmet. Colorado City Police escort the children riding to the park and instruct the children in bike safety. While at the park, we play games that help the children increase their bike handling skills.

Why?
The First Presbyterian Church believes that a bicycle can provide a number of benefits for children and adults. In addition to being a form of identity for children, a bicycle provides them with easy transportation to school and play. For older children and adults, a bicycle may be the best source of transportation to a job. And for all persons, bike riding is a healthy way to get around town.

Where?

The bicycles are repaired in the shop at Mr. Bubbles located at 140 W. 3rd, across from the Post Office in Colorado City.

When?
Bicycle Blessings for 2011 is being held March 27th - April 3rd. Bicycles needing repair will be accepted at Mr. Bubbles on Sunday, March 27th 2-4 PM; Monday, March 28th 6-8 PM; Tuesday, March 29th 6-8 PM; Thursday, March 31st 6-8 PM; and Saturday, April 2nd 11 AM-1 PM. All bikes should be picked up by 4 PM on Sunday, April 3rd. We will have the Ride to Ruddick Park at that time. The Colorado City Police will provide an escort for all riders. Once at the park we will share fun, food, and fellowship. Everyone is invited to join us for this ride!
